The OSG 61660 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance metal drilling in industrial and maintenance applications. Built from high speed steel with a coated finish, it measures 0.6299 inches (16 mm) in diameter and features a 120-degree faceted drill point for accurate starts and reduced walking on entry. The shortened screw machine length body provides increased rigidity compared to jobber length bits, making it well suited for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and turret lathes where stub-length tooling improves stability and tool life.
This drill bit is intended for right-hand cutting with a regular spiral flute and a straight-cylindrical shank. It is designed for machining steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces. The web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces thrust requirements when penetrating harder materials, making it a practical choice for production shops, tool rooms, and maintenance departments that run a variety of metal stock.
Designed for use in standard drill presses, CNC machining centers, and turret lathes accepting a 16 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces. Part of the OSG Series 1100 screw machine length program covering the 13.50 to 17.00 mm diameter range.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle and chuck or collet are fully powered down and locked out before inserting or removing the bit. Confirm the shank is fully seated and the holding device is tightened to the machine manufacturer's specifications before beginning a cut. Do not exceed the recommended feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material, as excessive force or speed can cause premature wear or bit failure.
