The OSG 61589 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other non-ferrous materials. Built from vanadium high speed steel and finished with a TiN (titanium nitride) coating, this bit delivers extended tool life and reduced friction at the cutting edge. The 120-degree, 4-facet point geometry with web thinning improves centering accuracy and reduces the thrust required to start and advance the cut. At 90 millimeters overall length with a 40-millimeter flute length, it fits standard screw machine and production drilling setups used by machinists and toolroom technicians.
This drill bit is suited for production machining, repair shop, and general metalworking applications where a shorter, more rigid drill profile is preferred over jobber length. The straight cylindrical shank accommodates standard drill chucks and collet holders. The regular spiral flute with tapered web configuration promotes chip evacuation in through-hole and blind-hole drilling on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. It is part of the OSG Series 1100 high performance line and carries a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio appropriate for moderate-depth holes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use drill bit for screw machine, CNC drilling, and production metalworking operations on steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and non-ferrous workpieces. No specific machine model compatibility was stated in the product data.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with drill press, lathe, or CNC machining center operation. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Secure the straight shank firmly in the chuck or collet to the manufacturer-specified engagement depth before operation. Always wear appropriate eye protection and follow applicable shop safety procedures when drilling metal.
