The OSG 61580 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in metalworking applications. Built from high speed steel with a coated finish, it features a 0.315 inch (8.00 mm) diameter, a 120-degree faceted point angle, and a two-flute spiral configuration with web thinning for improved chip evacuation and reduced thrust. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks and quick-change holders. At 81.00 mm overall length, the screw machine format offers increased rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it well-suited for precision hole production on CNC machines, drill presses, and manual lathes.
This bit is designed for right-hand cutting operations in a wide range of materials including steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate. The shortened flute-to-diameter ratio of 5xD and tapered web construction reduce walking and deflection, which is especially useful in high-production environments where hole location accuracy and repeatability matter. It is commonly used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working on production runs, fixture fabrication, and precision component drilling.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard tooling option for screw machine length drill bit applications in the 0.3000 to 0.3500 inch (8.00 to 9.50 mm) diameter range. Part of the OSG Series 1100 product line.
Installation and use of this bit should be performed by qualified machinists or tool operators familiar with drill press, lathe, or CNC machine operation. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing tooling. Verify chuck or collet runout before production drilling to maintain hole tolerance. Follow applicable shop safety standards and machine manufacturer guidelines when selecting feeds, speeds, and cutting fluids for the workpiece material.
