The OSG 61531 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in metal and non-ferrous materials. Manufactured from high speed steel with a coated finish, this bit features a 130-degree faceted point angle and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration that reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation. At 0.122 inches (3.10 mm) in diameter with an overall length of approximately 1.97 inches (50.00 mm), the 61531 fits the short, rigid profile of screw machine length tooling. It is part of the OSG Series 1100 and is suited for machinists, toolroom technicians, and CNC operators working in production environments.
This drill bit is built for drilling steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate. The screw machine length format provides increased rigidity compared to jobber length bits, making it well suited for drill press, turret lathe, screw machine, and CNC applications where runout control and hole accuracy are critical. The straight-cylindrical shank with a 4.00 mm (approximately 0.157 inches) diameter seats cleanly in standard collets and chucks. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio and regular spiral flute geometry support consistent chip removal in through-hole and blind-hole operations.
Designed as a screw machine length replacement or production drill bit for use in steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces, fitting standard chucks and collets accepting a straight-cylindrical shank of approximately 0.157 inches (4.00 mm) in diameter.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician familiar with rotating cutting tool safety. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and verify runout before production drilling. Cutting tool changes should only be made with the spindle fully stopped and machine power isolated. Consult the machine manufacturer and applicable OSHA standards for speeds, feeds, and workholding requirements appropriate to the material being drilled.
