The OSG 5812300 is a cobalt square end mill designed for milling operations in ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers greater heat and wear resistance than standard HSS tooling. The cutter measures 0.7087 inches (18.00 mm) in diameter with a 1.625-inch length of cut, a 0.625-inch shank diameter, and a 3.75-inch overall length. Four spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle provide efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. This is a single-end, uncoated tool with right-hand cut and right-hand flute geometry. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals use it for profiling, slotting, and peripheral milling applications.
This end mill is suited for use on manual mills and CNC machining centers in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments. The regular-length design fits standard tool holders and collet chucks accepting a 5/8-inch shank. It is appropriate for cutting steel alloys, stainless steel, and other materials where cobalt-grade tooling is specified over carbide or standard HSS. The non-centercutting geometry means plunge cuts are not recommended; conventional side milling and slotting are the intended operations. OSG Series 581 tooling is a recognized general-purpose cobalt end mill line for industrial machining applications.
Designed for use in standard 5/8-inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and milling machine spindles accepting a 0.625-inch straight shank. Part of OSG Series 581 regular-length cobalt end mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing tooling. Seat the shank to the full recommended engagement depth in the tool holder and torque the set screw or collet nut per the holder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before commencing cuts, and confirm the tool holder is rated for the intended spindle speed.
