The OSG 572040617 is a screw machine length solid carbide drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding materials including steel, cast iron, and hardened materials. It features a 13/32-inch (0.4062 inch decimal) diameter, a 180-degree flat-bottom point geometry, and a proprietary EgiAs multi-layer coating that extends tool life under aggressive cutting conditions. The shortened screw machine length body improves rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, reducing deflection in close-tolerance work. With coolant-through capability and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration, this bit handles high-feed applications where conventional drills fall short. It is intended for use by machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and CNC operators.
This drill bit is suited for production drilling and precision machining environments where flat-bottom hole geometry and tight diameter tolerances are required. It excels in applications involving steel, cast iron, and hardened workpiece materials. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and regular spiral flute design promote consistent chip evacuation in both manual and CNC machine tool setups. The straight cylindrical shank accepts standard drill chucks and collet holders sized for 0.4375-inch shank diameters, making it compatible with common machining center toolholding systems.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and direct-fit screw machine drill bit for machining setups accepting a 0.4375-inch straight cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials listed by the manufacturer are steel, cast iron, and hardened materials.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators familiar with carbide tooling. Secure the straight shank firmly in a compatible chuck or collet holder before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits, as carbide is brittle and sensitive to side loading. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle completely before installing or removing this bit. Do not use this bit as a substitute for a center drill in applications requiring a pointed-tip entry geometry, as the flat-bottom point is not designed for that purpose.
