The OSG 572018717 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous and hard materials. It features a 3/16 inch (4.76 mm) diameter with a 180-degree web-thinned point, reducing entry force and improving hole accuracy in tough workpieces. The bit has an overall length of 65 mm (approximately 2.56 inches) and a 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio suited for short, rigid drilling setups. Coolant-through construction supports high-speed production environments where heat dissipation is critical. Licensed machinists, tool and die makers, and precision drilling technicians are the primary users of this tool.
The OSG 572018717 is built for drilling into steel, alloy steel, and cast iron in screw machine and CNC machining center applications. The screw machine length design provides extra rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it appropriate for close-tolerance work in production shops, job shops, and maintenance machining environments. The right-hand spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently, and the straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collet holders without modification.
Designed for use in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces. Compatible with standard drill chucks and collet holders accepting a 0.1875 inch straight cylindrical shank. Suitable for screw machine operations and CNC drilling applications within the 0.1500 to 0.2000 inch (3.50 to 5.00 mm) drill bit size range covered by OSG Series 5720.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians familiar with carbide tooling. Ensure the machine spindle and work holding are secured before tool engagement, as solid carbide is brittle and sensitive to lateral shock or side loading. Confirm that coolant-through supply is active when running coolant-through capable setups to protect tool life. Inspect the shank and collet or chuck for contamination or runout before seating the bit.
