The OSG 5687800 is a cobalt square end mill designed for precision milling of ferrous and hard metals. Built to Series 568 specifications, it features a 5/32 inch (0.1563 inch) cutting diameter, a 7/8 inch (0.875 inch) length of cut, and a 3/16 inch (0.1875 inch) shank diameter. The double-end configuration extends tool life by providing two usable cutting ends. Made from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this end mill handles tough materials where standard HSS falls short. It is uncoated and arrives ready for use or can accept coatings applied by the shop. Licensed machinists and toolroom operators are the primary users of this tool.
This end mill is suited for long-reach milling applications in manual mills and CNC machining centers. The long-length designation and 30-degree helix angle make it appropriate for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous workpieces. The centercutting geometry allows it to plunge directly into a workpiece without a pre-drilled start hole. The right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute configuration is the standard for conventional and climb milling in most shop setups.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use tool for manual mills and CNC machining centers accepting a 3/16 inch shank diameter. Suitable for use in standard collets, end mill holders, and set-screw holders sized for 3/16 inch shanks.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom operator. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down or locked out before changing tooling. Secure the shank to the minimum recommended insertion depth in the holder and verify runout with a dial indicator before cutting. Follow shop-standard feeds, speeds, and cutting fluid practices appropriate for cobalt HSS tooling in the workpiece material.
