The OSG 5466608 is a cobalt square end mill engineered for demanding material removal in ferrous and difficult-to-machine alloys. Built to Series 546 long-length specifications, it carries a 1.5-inch cutting diameter, a 4-inch length of cut, and a 6-1/2-inch overall length on a 1-1/4-inch straight shank. Six spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle promote smooth chip evacuation and reduce chatter at extended reach. A TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coating adds surface hardness and heat resistance. The micrograin cobalt substrate provides toughness and edge retention that high-speed steel cannot match. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments.
The 5466608 is suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations where a long reach is required. Its centercutting geometry allows plunge entry, giving operators flexibility in toolpath programming without a pre-drilled entry point. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration follow standard CNC and manual milling conventions. The long length of cut — rated at 4 inches — makes it appropriate for deep-pocket work, mold cavities, and tall workpiece features where a standard-length end mill would not reach. It is sold as a single-piece unit with a minimum order quantity of one.
Designed for use in standard milling machine spindles and CNC machining centers accepting a 1-1/4-inch straight shank. Part of the OSG Series 546 long-length cobalt end mill lineup.
Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician. The shank must be secured in a compatible collet, end mill holder, or milling chuck rated for the 1-1/4-inch diameter before the spindle is engaged. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before cutting to prevent premature edge wear. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing tooling.
