The OSG 5270100 is a cobalt square end mill designed for general-purpose milling operations in metalworking and machining environments. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers improved heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS tooling, making it suitable for cutting harder workpiece materials at moderate to elevated speeds. The cutter measures 0.125 inches in diameter with a 0.375 inch length of cut and a 0.375 inch shank diameter, keeping the overall length at 2.375 inches. A 30-degree helix angle and two spiral flutes promote efficient chip evacuation. This end mill is centercutting, so it can plunge directly into material as well as perform peripheral and slot milling. It is uncoated and used as-received from the factory.
This tool is suited for light-to-medium milling work on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and similar materials where cobalt tooling is preferred over carbide for interrupted cuts or setups with less rigid fixturing. The 0.125 inch diameter makes it appropriate for narrow slots, small-feature profiling, and detailed contouring work on manual mills and CNC machining centers. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration is standard for conventional spindle rotation. The extended-reach geometry provides access to deeper features relative to the cutter diameter.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard tooling option for CNC machining centers and manual milling machines using a 0.375 inch collet, end mill holder, or ER-style toolholder accepting a 0.375 inch shank.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before loading or removing the tool from the holder. Seat the shank fully into the collet or end mill holder and torque the retention hardware per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a production cut, particularly given the small diameter of this tool, which is sensitive to holder concentricity.
