The OSG 52401006 is a replaceable drill tip designed for use with modular drill systems in high-production machining environments. Part of the OSG 78PXD series, this tip features a 0.75-inch (19.05 mm) cutting diameter and a 140-degree point angle optimized for fast penetration and accurate entry on flat and angled surfaces. Manufactured from solid carbide with a PVD-applied chromium (Cr) coating, grade XP3425 provides wear resistance and thermal stability when cutting steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. The tip uses a clamp-style insert holding method and seat size 7, and is equipped with through-coolant capability to manage heat and chip evacuation at the cutting zone. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians working with indexable modular drill bodies are the primary installers.
This replaceable tip is suited for drilling operations in ISO material groups P (steel), K (cast iron), and N (non-ferrous metals) across both production and job-shop environments. The 78PXD series platform targets applications where consistent hole diameter and fast tip changeover reduce downtime. The helical, regular-spiral flute geometry with a 3.00 mm flute length supports chip flow in short-flute, high-feed drilling conditions typical of CNC machining centers and turning centers with live tooling. The ISO number for this tip is PXDH7500-PC.
Designed for use with OSG 78PXD series modular drill bodies that accept seat size 7 replaceable tips with ISO number PXDH7500-PC.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine spindle locked out and at zero energy state. Use the manufacturer-specified torque wrench or clamp key for the 78PXD body to seat the tip securely — do not use improvised tools that risk damaging the seating surface. Inspect the insert pocket for debris, chips, or wear before seating the new tip, as contamination on the seating face affects runout and hole accuracy. Verify through-coolant passages are clear before resuming operation.
