The OSG 5229200 is a cobalt square end mill designed for milling operations requiring precise flat-bottomed cuts, shoulders, and slots. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this double-end tool delivers extended tool life in tough materials including hardened steels, stainless, and heat-resistant alloys. The uncoated spiral flute geometry and 30-degree helix angle promote smooth chip evacuation and stable cutting action. With a 7/32 inch (0.2188 inch) cutting diameter and a 1/2 inch length of cut, this tool suits detailed profiling and slotting work where tight tolerances are required. It is centercutting, allowing direct plunge entry into the workpiece. Machinists and toolroom technicians in manufacturing, maintenance, and job-shop environments install and run this tool.
The OSG 5229200 is suited for milling operations on ferrous metals, stainless steel, titanium, and other difficult-to-machine materials where cobalt tooling outperforms standard high-speed steel. The double-end configuration provides two usable cutting ends, extending the value of each tool. The 3/8 inch shank diameter fits standard collet chucks, end mill holders, and side-lock holders common in knee mills, CNC machining centers, and manual bridgeport-style equipment. With a 3-1/8 inch overall length and regular-length classification, this end mill suits general-purpose milling at typical spindle-to-work distances without requiring extended-reach toolholding.
Designed as a standard Series 522 double-end square end mill compatible with 3/8 inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and side-lock toolholding systems used in vertical milling machines and CNC machining centers.
End mills should be installed and adjusted by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing or seating tooling. Ensure the shank is fully seated in the holder to the recommended engagement depth per the toolholder manufacturer before tightening. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or wear before each use; a damaged cutting edge on cobalt tooling can fracture under load.
