The OSG 5229100 is a cobalt square end mill designed for milling operations that demand toughness and heat resistance. Built to Series 522 standards, this double-end tool features a 5/32-inch cutting diameter, a 7/16-inch length of cut, and a 30-degree helix angle with spiral fluting. The M42 cobalt construction handles harder workpiece materials and higher cutting temperatures than standard high-speed steel tooling. Centercutting geometry allows both plunge and peripheral cutting. The uncoated finish suits applications where coating is unnecessary or where re-sharpening is anticipated. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users of this style of end mill.
This end mill is suited for slotting, profiling, and light plunge milling on ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute configuration is standard for conventional CNC and manual milling machine setups. The 3/8-inch shank diameter fits common collet systems and end mill holders in that bore size. The regular-length body and 3-1/8-inch overall length make it practical for general-purpose material removal where extended reach is not required. Typical applications include shop floor production milling, toolroom work, and prototype machining.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement for standard cobalt square end mills with a 3/8-inch shank diameter and 5/32-inch cutting diameter in Series 522 regular-length configurations.
Installation and use of this end mill should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with milling machine operation and toolholder specifications. Ensure the machine spindle and collet or end mill holder are clean and free of debris before seating the shank. Confirm that the milling machine is fully powered down and locked out before changing tooling. Follow applicable shop safety protocols and machine manufacturer guidelines for speed and feed selection based on workpiece material and depth of cut.
