The OSG 5227100 is a double-end cobalt square end mill designed for milling, slotting, and profiling operations on steel, stainless steel, and other ferrous materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat and wear resistance that outperforms standard HSS tooling in demanding cutting conditions. The 31/64 inch (0.4844 inch) cutting diameter pairs with a 13/16 inch (0.8125 inch) length of cut and a 30-degree helix angle. The double-end configuration provides two usable cutting ends, extending tool life and reducing per-cut tooling costs. Installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals, this end mill fits standard CNC and manual milling machines equipped with a 1/2 inch collet or chuck.
The OSG 5227100 suits general-purpose material removal in job shops, maintenance machining, and production milling environments. Its Series 522 designation indicates a regular-length geometry suitable for applications where extended reach is not required. The bright, uncoated finish makes it well suited for use with cutting fluid on ferrous stock. The centercutting design allows plunge entry as well as peripheral and slot cuts, giving machinists flexibility in toolpath strategy without a secondary drilling operation.
Designed for use in milling machines, CNC machining centers, and drill presses equipped with a 1/2 inch collet, end mill holder, or drill chuck. Suitable for slotting, profiling, and plunge cutting on ferrous and similar materials consistent with M42 cobalt HSS tooling applications.
Installation and tool changes should be performed with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Secure the 1/2 inch shank in a properly sized collet or end mill holder and torque to the machine manufacturer's specification using appropriate tooling. Inspect both cutting ends for chipping or wear before use. Follow shop safety protocols and applicable OSHA machine guarding requirements when operating milling equipment.
