The OSG 5226800 is a double-end cobalt square end mill designed for milling ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials in machining center and manual mill applications. It measures 0.3906 inches (25/64 inches) in diameter with a 0.8125-inch (13/16 inches) length of cut and a 0.5000-inch (1/2 inches) shank diameter. The overall length is 3.7500 inches (3-3/4 inches). Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this tool handles heat and wear at cutting edges better than standard HSS, making it suitable for stainless steel, hardened alloys, and other demanding workpiece materials. The 30-degree helix and two-flute geometry support efficient chip evacuation in slotting and peripheral milling operations.
This end mill is used in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments where operators need a reliable cobalt tool for roughing and semi-finishing cuts. The double-end design provides two usable cutting ends, extending overall tool life before replacement. It is appropriate for CNC machining centers, knee mills, and manual bridgeport-style machines. The bright, uncoated finish makes it straightforward to resharpen. Series 522 indicates a regular-length geometry suited to general-purpose milling where extended reach is not required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use end mill for standard 1/2 inch collet and end mill holder tooling systems used in CNC and manual milling machines.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Secure the 1/2 inch shank in a matching collet, end mill holder, or Weldon-style holder, and verify runout before cutting. Ensure the spindle and any power feeds are fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Follow shop-specific speeds and feeds guidelines for cobalt tooling and the specific workpiece material being machined.
