The OSG 5225100 is a cobalt square end mill designed for milling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where toughness and heat resistance are required. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this double-end tool delivers extended tool life under demanding cutting conditions. It features a 1-inch cutting diameter, a 1-5/8-inch length of cut, and a 5-7/8-inch overall length. The 30-degree helix spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. This end mill is centercutting, allowing plunge cuts in addition to peripheral and slot milling. Licensed machinists, toolmakers, and CNC operators install this type of tooling.
The OSG 5225100 is suited for general-purpose milling in job shops, maintenance environments, and production settings. The double-end design provides two usable cutting ends, extending the service life of a single tool. With a 1-inch straight shank, it seats in standard end mill holders, collet chucks, and Weldon-style holders found on vertical mills and CNC machining centers. It carries a regular length classification with a length-of-cut range of 1.5 to 2.0 inches, making it appropriate for moderate-depth slotting, profiling, and shoulder milling applications where reach requirements are standard.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct drop-in for standard 1-inch straight-shank end mill holders, collet chucks, and Weldon-style tool holders used on vertical knee mills and CNC machining centers. Part of the OSG Series 522 end mill product line.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the machine powered down before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the holder and torque the set screw or collet nut according to the holder manufacturer specifications. Inspect both cutting ends for chipping or wear before use; a damaged cutting edge should not be placed in service.
