The OSG 492-0500 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metalworking and machining applications. With a 3/64 inch (0.0500 inch) cutting diameter and a 5/32 inch (0.1560 inch) length of cut, this tool is built for tight-tolerance work in small-feature milling. The 2-flute, spiral flute geometry with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and clean cutting action. Manufactured from micrograin solid carbide, the 492-0500 delivers the hardness and wear resistance required for demanding cuts. It is center-cutting, allowing plunge entry as well as peripheral milling. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users of this tool.
This end mill is suited for precision slot milling, profiling, and pocket work on small-scale features in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The uncoated micrograin carbide construction makes it well-suited for applications where coating adhesion could affect dimensional accuracy, or where the material being cut benefits from a sharp, uncoated edge. With a 1/8 inch shank diameter and a 1-1/2 inch overall length, it fits standard small-bore tool holders and collets commonly used in CNC machining centers, benchtop mills, and die-mold work. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration follows standard industry convention.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully in the collet to the minimum insertion depth required by the tool holder manufacturer to avoid tool pull-out under cutting loads. Verify runout with an indicator after clamping before beginning a cut.
