The OSG 4900100 is a single-end, square-profile cobalt end mill designed for milling ferrous metals, stainless steels, and high-temperature alloys on CNC machining centers and manual mills. It features a 0.5 inch cutting diameter, a 1.25 inch length of cut (LOC), and a 0.5 inch straight shank for direct collet or end mill holder mounting. The four-flute geometry provides a good balance of chip evacuation and surface finish in most general-purpose milling operations. The 30-degree helix angle promotes smooth cutting action and reduced chatter. The cobalt substrate offers elevated heat resistance compared to standard high-speed steel without the brittleness associated with carbide tooling.
This end mill is suited for slotting, peripheral milling, and light profiling operations in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments. Its coarse pitch and right-hand cut with right-hand flute configuration make it a standard selection for conventional milling passes on steel, cast iron, and similar workpiece materials. The regular-length body and 3.25 inch overall length (OAL) fit standard tool-change envelopes on most vertical machining centers.
Designed for use in standard 0.5 inch collet chucks, end mill holders, or Weldon-style holders on vertical and horizontal machining centers. Suits general-purpose milling applications in ferrous metals and high-temperature alloys where cobalt tooling is specified.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician following standard toolholding procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the tool. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the recommended engagement depth and torque set screws per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before commencing cuts to extend tool life and maintain dimensional accuracy.
