The OSG 484-500108 is a solid carbide square end mill engineered for precision milling in metal cutting applications. It features a 0.5-inch diameter cutting face, a 1.5-inch length of cut (LOC), and a 6-inch overall length (OAL), making it well suited for both slotting and peripheral milling operations. The four-flute spiral design runs at a 30-degree helix angle with right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction, promoting efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes. A TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating adds surface hardness and wear resistance. The micrograin carbide substrate provides rigidity and edge retention across a range of workpiece materials. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and CNC programmers in production and job-shop environments.
The OSG 484-500108 is designed for use in vertical machining centers, CNC mills, and manual knee mills where a standard 0.5-inch shank is required. It is center-cutting, allowing plunge entry in addition to conventional side and slot milling. The 30-degree helix and four-flute geometry suit steels, stainless alloys, and non-ferrous metals where balanced chip load and surface finish are priorities. Extended reach is not incorporated into this design, keeping the tool compact and maximizing rigidity at the 6-inch OAL. This end mill fits standard ER, Weldon, and heat-shrink toolholders accepting a 0.5-inch shank.
Part of the OSG Series 484 end mill line. Fits any toolholder accepting a 0.5-inch straight shank, including ER collet chucks, Weldon-style holders, and shrink-fit systems. Designed as a direct-fit replacement for Series 484 square end mill applications requiring a 0.5-inch diameter, 1.5-inch LOC configuration.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked before inserting or removing the end mill from its toolholder. Confirm the shank is clean and free of debris before clamping to achieve proper runout specifications. Follow the machine tool manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when setting tool offsets and feeds and speeds for the workpiece material.
