The OSG 484-500008 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding metalworking and machining applications. Built on OSG Series 484, it features a 0.5 inch cutting diameter, a 1.5 inch length of cut, and a 6 inch overall length that makes it well suited for deep-reach milling where standard-length tools fall short. The TiCN coating improves surface hardness and lubricity, helping extend tool life when cutting ferrous and non-ferrous materials. With a 30-degree helix and four spiral flutes, the tool promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. Micrograin carbide construction provides the edge retention needed for production-level work.
This end mill is intended for use on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills in both job shop and production environments. The extra-long overall length of 6 inches is suited for applications requiring extended reach into deep pockets, tall workpieces, or fixture-clearance situations. The centercutting geometry allows direct plunge entry, giving machinists flexibility in toolpath programming. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration is standard for conventional milling machine spindle rotation.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard tooling option for CNC machining centers and manual mills accepting a 0.5 inch straight shank, compatible with any ER, collet chuck, or end mill holder rated for a 0.5 inch shank diameter.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before mounting or removing the tool. Seat the shank to the full recommended insertion depth in the holder to minimize runout and prevent pullout under cutting loads. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a production cut, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear and reduces part accuracy.
