The OSG 484-5000-BN is a solid carbide ball end mill engineered for demanding material removal across a broad range of workpiece materials. Designed as a single-end, 4-flute tool with a 0.5-inch mill diameter and a 30-degree medium helix angle, it handles both roughing and finishing operations in a single tool. The extra-long 3-inch length of cut and 6-inch overall length make it well suited for deep-cavity work and extended-reach applications where shorter tools fall short. Micrograin carbide construction provides the rigidity and edge retention needed when cutting steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and hard materials. The bright uncoated finish keeps the tool ready to use without additional prep.
This end mill fits standard machining center and CNC mill applications in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments. The straight cylindrical 0.5-inch shank seats directly into standard ER collets, hydraulic chucks, and shrink-fit holders without adapters. Its reach length of 3.0 inches and 0.25-inch nose radius make it a practical choice for contour milling, 3D profiling, and finishing passes on molds, dies, and complex part geometry. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction follow standard spindle rotation, requiring no special programming adjustments on most machines.
Compatible with steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and hard materials as noted in the workpiece material classifications P, M, K, N, and H. Installation is performed by machinists and CNC setup technicians. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in an e-stop or powered-down state before loading or changing the tool. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder to the recommended gauge line before torquing the retention mechanism to the toolholder specification. Confirm runout with a dial indicator after clamping, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear and reduces dimensional accuracy.
