The OSG 484-1968 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in metalworking applications. It features a 0.1969-inch (5.00 mm) mill diameter with a 1.2598-inch (32.00 mm) length of cut and an overall length of 76.00 mm. The 4-flute, single-end configuration runs a 30-degree helix spiral flute with right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation. Manufactured from micrograin carbide with a bright uncoated finish, this tool is centercutting-capable and falls into the extra-long length category within the OSG Series 484 lineup. It is intended for installation and use by machinists and tooling professionals working in production or job-shop environments.
This end mill is suited for milling operations across a broad range of primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and hardened materials. The extra-long length of cut makes it well suited for deep-pocket milling, slotting, and profiling where standard-length tools cannot reach. The uncoated bright finish allows use across multiple material categories without finish-specific limitations. It does not include coolant-through capability, so external coolant or air blast cooling should be factored into the setup.
The OSG 484-1968 is designed for use with standard collet chucks, end mill holders, and shrink-fit tooling systems accepting a 5.00 mm shank diameter. It is rated for primary workpiece material codes P, M, K, N, and H covering steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous, and hardened materials.
Installation and tool changes should be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per shop safety procedures. Ensure the collet or holder bore is clean and free of runout before seating the shank to the correct depth. Verify spindle speed and feed rate parameters against the material being cut before engaging the tool. Consult OSG published cutting data for Series 484 when establishing initial speeds and feeds for a new application.
