The OSG 462-5000-BN is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for precision milling of contoured surfaces, pockets, and complex 3D profiles in a wide range of workpiece materials. It features a 0.5-inch cutting diameter, a 2-inch length of cut, and a 0.25-inch nose radius that produces smooth, consistent ball-nose geometry. The micrograin carbide construction provides rigidity and wear resistance suited to both roughing and finishing passes. With a 30-degree helical flute angle and two right-hand helical flutes, the tool balances chip evacuation with edge strength. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users in production shop environments.
This long-series end mill is well suited to vertical machining centers and CNC milling setups where reach into deep features or stepped workpieces is required. The 4-inch overall length and 0.5-inch straight-cylindrical shank allow standard ER or side-lock toolholding. The tool addresses secondary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and hard materials, covering a broad range of production and job-shop applications. Single-end configuration makes it a direct, repeatable tooling investment across medium-volume runs.
Rated for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and hard materials (ISO material codes P, M, K, N, H). Designed as part of the OSG Series 462BN standard carbide end mill lineup and fits standard 0.5-inch collet, ER, or side-lock toolholders.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle and toolholder are fully de-energized and locked out before mounting or removing the tool. Verify runout at the toolholder before cutting to stay within the shank diameter tolerance of +0.0000 / -0.0005 inches. Follow the machine manufacturer and tooling guidelines for appropriate feed rates, spindle speeds, and depth of cut based on workpiece material and fixturing rigidity.
