The OSG 4501000 is a single-end square end mill designed for general-purpose milling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Manufactured from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright finish, it delivers reliable cutting performance in a range of conventional machining applications. The 4-flute configuration provides a good balance of chip clearance and surface finish quality. Key geometry includes a 30-degree helix angle with right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation, making it compatible with standard vertical and horizontal milling setups. This tool is suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling where consistent dimensional accuracy is required.
This end mill is used in machine shops, maintenance facilities, and production environments where HSS tooling is preferred over carbide for its toughness and resistance to chipping on interrupted cuts. Typical applications include slotting and contouring in steel, aluminum, brass, and similar materials on manual mills and CNC machining centers operating at conventional cutting speeds. The Series 450 designation places this tool within OSG's standard HSS end mill lineup.
Designed as a standard replacement or stocking end mill for tool cribs and machining operations requiring 0.75 inch diameter, 4-flute HSS square end mills with a 0.75 inch shank diameter. Fits standard ER collet chucks, end mill holders, and milling machine spindles accepting 0.75 inch straight shanks.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the end mill from its holder. Seat the shank fully into the collet or end mill holder and torque the retention hardware according to the tool holder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the cutting edges and shank for damage before each use, and select feed and speed parameters appropriate for the workpiece material and machine rigidity.
