The OSG 4310500 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers the hardness and heat resistance needed for tough ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 1-inch diameter cutter features 3 flutes with a coarse pitch, optimized for chip evacuation during heavy roughing passes. The center-cutting design allows plunge entry directly into workpiece material. With a 2-inch length of cut and 4.5-inch overall length, it suits standard milling setups on knee mills, CNC machining centers, and manual bridgeports alike.
This end mill is intended for roughing operations where maximizing stock removal rate is the priority over surface finish. The coarse pitch geometry reduces cutting forces and helps clear chips quickly, making it well suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in production and job-shop environments. The Series 430 designation places it within OSG's standard cobalt roughing line. It is installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in both manual and CNC machine tool setups. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional spindle-direction machining.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill for use in standard 1-inch collets, end mill holders, or hydraulic chucks on knee mills, vertical machining centers, and CNC milling machines accepting a 1-inch straight shank.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom professional. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the tool from its holder. Ensure the shank is fully engaged in the holder to the recommended minimum insertion depth per the tool holder manufacturer's guidelines. Verify runout with a dial indicator after clamping before beginning a cut.
