The OSG 424-0625-BN is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for precision milling in a wide range of metalworking applications. With a 0.0625 inch (1/16 inch) mill diameter and a 0.1250 inch (1/8 inch) shank diameter, this stub-length tool runs a 4-flute, right-hand spiral configuration with a 30-degree medium helix angle. The bright uncoated finish leaves the carbide substrate exposed for applications where coating is not required or preferred. At 1.5 inches overall length and a 0.1250 inch length of cut, this is a compact, rigid tool suited for tight-tolerance finishing and light roughing passes in small-feature work. Licensed machinists, tool and die makers, and CNC operators are the primary users.
The 424-0625-BN is suited for both roughing and finishing operations across a broad material range. Compatible secondary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Its stub-length geometry provides maximum rigidity in short-reach applications such as small pocket milling, slot cutting, and contour work on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. The straight-cylindrical shank mates with standard collet chucks and end mill holders sized for 1/8 inch shanks.
Designed for use with standard 1/8 inch collet chucks and end mill holders on CNC machining centers or manual milling machines. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials per OSG material codes P, M, K, N, S, and H.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is clean and free of debris before seating the shank. Use a calibrated torque wrench when tightening collet nuts to avoid shank deformation on this small-diameter tool. Verify runout with a dial indicator after mounting — excessive runout at this diameter will accelerate edge wear and reduce dimensional accuracy.
