The OSG 414-1406 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precise milling operations in metal, composites, and engineering plastics. It features a 9/64 inch (0.1406 inch) cutting diameter with a 9/32 inch (0.2813 inch) length of cut, making it well-suited for slot milling, profiling, and peripheral cutting in tight-tolerance applications. The four-flute, right-hand spiral geometry with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and surface finish quality. Machined from micrograin solid carbide, the tool delivers rigidity and wear resistance in demanding cutting conditions. The centercutting design allows plunge entry, expanding its versatility on CNC machining centers and manual mills.
The OSG 414-1406 is intended for use in precision machining environments, including job shops, tool rooms, and production floors. Its stub-length profile - with a 2 inch overall length and a 3/16 inch shank diameter - provides added rigidity for applications where vibration and deflection must be minimized. This configuration is commonly applied when machining shallow slots, pockets, and contours in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The uncoated micrograin carbide substrate suits general-purpose use and can be paired with cutting fluids for optimal tool life.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use solid carbide square end mill for CNC machining centers and manual mills accepting a 3/16 inch shank diameter, Series 414 stub-length tooling.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Secure the shank to the specified clamping torque for the holder type in use - consult the toolholder manufacturer guidelines. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning production cuts to confirm proper seating.
