The OSG 412-156208 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling of ferrous and non-ferrous materials in CNC and manual machining operations. It features a 5/32-inch cutting diameter, a 5/16-inch length of cut, and a TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating that increases surface hardness and wear resistance compared to uncoated carbide. The 2-flute spiral configuration with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation in slotting and profiling passes. Micrograin carbide construction provides the toughness and edge retention needed for tight-tolerance work. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary installers and operators of this tool.
The 412-156208 is suited for light to medium-duty milling applications where a small-diameter end mill is required. Typical use cases include slot milling, profiling, and contouring in ferrous steels, stainless, aluminum, and plastics. The 3/16-inch shank diameter accommodates standard ER collet chucks and end mill holders found on vertical machining centers, knee mills, and CNC routers. The centercutting geometry allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece without pre-drilling.
Designed as a standard Series 412 small-diameter square end mill compatible with 3/16-inch ER collet chucks, shrink-fit holders, and end mill holders used on vertical machining centers, knee mills, and CNC routers.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered off before changing tooling. Secure the shank to the minimum recommended grip depth in the collet or holder and torque the retention nut per the tool holder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or wear before each use and replace the tool if edge integrity is compromised.
