The OSG 4100003111 is a helical flute thread mill designed for cutting internal 1/2-32 UNS threads in a single helical pass. Built from solid carbide and finished with an EXO TiAlN coating, this tool offers the heat resistance and wear life needed in production or job-shop environments. The 4-flute, right-hand cutting geometry with right-hand flute direction provides stable chip evacuation during interpolation. With a 0.375-inch shank diameter and 3.0-inch overall length, it fits standard CNC machining center toolholders. Coolant-through is not supported, making it suited for flood or mist coolant setups. Machinists and CNC programmers use this tool when thread milling is preferred over tapping for precision, flexibility, or difficult materials.
This thread mill is applied in CNC machining centers performing internal thread milling on workpieces requiring 1/2-32 UNS thread forms. The helical interpolation method allows a single tool to produce the full thread depth in one pass, making it practical for low-volume runs and prototype work as well as production threading. The 0.766-inch length of cut accommodates standard thread engagement depths for this thread size. It is suited for ferrous and non-ferrous materials where the TiAlN EXO coating provides adequate thermal protection at typical thread milling feed and speed parameters.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers with standard toolholding systems accepting a 3/8-inch shank diameter. Intended for internal 1/2-32 UNS thread milling applications.
Installation and operation of this tool should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician. Secure the shank in a collet chuck or end mill holder sized for a 3/8-inch shank, ensuring adequate runout before cutting. Program the CNC control for helical interpolation at the correct thread pitch for 32 TPI. Verify spindle direction and feed rate calculations against the tool manufacturer recommendations before the first cut.
