The OSG 4100001611 is a solid carbide helical flute thread mill designed for cutting internal 1/2-13 UNC threads. It features a 4-flute, right-hand cutting geometry with a 0.37-inch cutting diameter and a 0.768-inch length of cut. The tool carries an EXO TiAlN coating for elevated heat and wear resistance during high-speed milling operations. At 3.0 inches overall length with a 3/8-inch shank diameter, it fits standard CNC machining center toolholders. This tool is used by machinists and toolroom professionals in production and job-shop environments where thread milling is preferred over tapping for accuracy or material considerations.
This thread mill is suited for internal thread milling applications in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where a 1/2-13 UNC thread form is required. The helical flute design and TiAlN coating make it appropriate for use in hardened steels, stainless alloys, and other difficult-to-machine materials. It operates without coolant-through capability, so external coolant or air blast is recommended. Typical applications include aerospace, automotive, and general precision machining where controlled thread form and tool life consistency are priorities.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers capable of helical interpolation for internal thread milling of 1/2-13 UNC threads. Part of the OSG Series 41000 thread mill line.
Thread milling requires a CNC control capable of helical interpolation — confirm program compatibility before setup. Secure the shank in a high-precision collet or toolholder to minimize runout, as runout directly affects thread form accuracy. This tool does not have coolant-through capability; direct external coolant or air blast at the cutting zone to manage chip evacuation and heat. Follow the machine tool builder and OSG cutting data recommendations for feed rate and radial depth of cut for the specific workpiece material.
