The OSG 404-8750 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metal cutting applications. Built from micrograin carbide, it delivers consistent edge sharpness and wear resistance across a broad range of materials. The 4-flute configuration supports efficient chip evacuation while maintaining a strong core for rigidity. With a 30-degree helix angle and right-hand spiral flute geometry, the tool generates smooth cutting action and reduces chatter. It is centercutting, allowing plunge entry into workpieces. Machinists and tool-and-die shops rely on this series for slotting, peripheral milling, and profiling work where dimensional accuracy is critical.
The 404-8750 is suited for use on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills in production and job-shop environments. Its 7/8 inch diameter and 1-1/2 inch length of cut make it appropriate for medium-depth slot and profile passes. The 7/8 inch shank diameter provides a secure, low-runout grip in standard end mill holders or collet chucks. This is a general-purpose geometry without coatings, making it compatible with re-sharpening and suitable for shops that recondition tooling. It fits residential and commercial machine shops, aerospace fabrication, and general metalworking operations.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for OSG Series 404 square end mills with a 7/8 inch shank diameter, compatible with standard end mill holders, ER collet chucks, and hydraulic toolholders accepting 7/8 inch shanks.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and machine power is off before loading or removing the tool. Seat the shank to the recommended minimum engagement depth in the holder and torque set screws or collet nuts per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning cuts, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear and reduces surface finish quality.
