The OSG 404-4375-BN is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for precision milling in demanding machining environments. It features a 0.4375-inch (7/16-inch) diameter with a matching 0.4375-inch straight-cylindrical shank, a 1-inch length of cut, and a 2.75-inch overall length. The 4-flute, right-hand helical geometry at a 30-degree helix angle supports both roughing and finishing operations in a single tool. Manufactured from micrograin solid carbide to OSG quality standards, this single-end mill ships uncoated (bright finish) and is built for consistent tolerancing across production runs. Machinists and CNC operators in job shops and manufacturing facilities are the primary users.
The 404-4375-BN is suited for a wide range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Its standard-length profile and medium helix style make it a practical choice for general-purpose 3D contouring, slotting, profiling, and blending operations on machining centers and manual mills. The ball nose geometry produces smooth curved surfaces and blend radii, making it a go-to tool for die and mold work as well as contoured part features.
Rated for use in steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), non-ferrous metals (N), superalloys and titanium (S), and hard materials (H) per ISO workpiece material classification. Fits standard 7/16-inch straight-bore toolholders and collet chucks.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per shop safety procedures. Ensure the shank is fully seated and properly torqued in the toolholder collet or set-screw holder before spindle engagement. Verify runout with a dial indicator after clamping, as excessive runout will accelerate edge wear on carbide tooling. Consult the machine tool manufacturer and applicable cutting data references for appropriate feed, speed, and depth-of-cut parameters for the workpiece material.
