The OSG 404-1406 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metalworking and machining applications. It features a 9/64 inch (0.1406 inch) cutting diameter and a 1/2 inch length of cut, making it well suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in tight-tolerance work. The 4-flute spiral configuration with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. Centercutting geometry allows the tool to plunge directly into the workpiece. At 2 inches overall length with a 3/16 inch shank diameter, this end mill fits standard collet chucks used in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills.
This end mill is intended for use in professional machine shop environments and production environments where small-diameter precision cutting is required. The uncoated micrograin solid carbide construction is appropriate for dry cutting or use with cutting fluids in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Its compact size makes it particularly useful for fine detail work, small pocket milling, and finishing passes where larger tools cannot reach. The Series 404 designation places it within OSG's standard square end mill line.
Designed as a standard-shank square end mill compatible with 3/16 inch collets and collet chucks on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines that accept small-diameter tooling.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and the machine powered down. Secure the shank fully within the collet to the recommended engagement depth and verify runout before initiating a cut. Follow the tool manufacturer and machine manufacturer guidelines for feeds, speeds, and depth of cut. Do not use damaged or excessively worn collets, as poor clamping increases runout and can cause premature tool failure.
