The OSG 404-1000-BN is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for precision milling across a wide range of materials. It features a 1 inch cutting diameter, a 1.5 inch length of cut, and a 4-inch overall length with a straight cylindrical 1 inch shank. The four-flute helical design with a 30-degree helix angle supports both roughing and finishing operations in a single tool. Micrograin carbide construction provides the edge retention and rigidity needed for demanding cuts in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and harder materials. This is a single-end tool with a bright uncoated finish, suited for applications where coating is not required or where coolant-based lubrication is preferred.
This end mill is part of the OSG 404BN series, which targets production shops and toolrooms looking for consistent tolerancing at a practical price point. It is suited for use on CNC machining centers and manual mills where ball-end profiling, contouring, slotting, and 3D surface work are performed. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction make it compatible with standard spindle configurations.
Designed for use in standard CNC machining centers and manual mills with right-hand spindle rotation. Compatible workpiece material groups include steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), non-ferrous metals (N), superalloys and titanium (S), and hard materials (H) per ISO material classification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Secure the shank fully in a properly sized end mill holder or collet chuck, ensuring adequate engagement depth and runout within acceptable limits. Confirm spindle rotation direction matches the right-hand cutting geometry before starting the spindle. No coolant-through capability is present on this tool, so external coolant or mist lubrication should be applied as appropriate for the workpiece material.
