The OSG 403-2188 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metalworking and machining applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide, this tool offers the rigidity and wear resistance needed for demanding cuts in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 7/32 inch (0.2188 inch) cutting diameter pairs with a 5/8 inch length of cut, a 1/4 inch shank diameter, and a 2-1/2 inch overall length. Three spiral flutes at a 30-degree helix angle provide efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. The uncoated finish suits shops that prefer to apply their own coatings or work in materials where bare carbide performs best.
This end mill is suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in general machining environments. The centercutting geometry allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece, giving the operator flexibility in toolpath strategies. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration follow standard CNC and manual milling machine conventions. It fits applications where a smaller-diameter tool is needed for tight-feature work, narrow slots, or finishing passes in harder materials. Machinists running production or job-shop work will find the Series 403 design straightforward to set up and run.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-purchase cutting tool for standard CNC machining centers and manual milling machines accepting a 1/4 inch shank end mill holder or collet.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet or end mill holder to the recommended engagement depth before tightening. Follow machine tool manufacturer torque specifications for the collet nut or set screw, and verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning production cuts.
