The OSG 402-4844 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in a wide range of metalworking applications. It features a 31/64 inch (0.4844 inch) cutting diameter, a 1 inch length of cut, and a 3 inch overall length with a 1/2 inch shank diameter. The 2-flute geometry with a 30-degree helix angle and spiral flute design promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. Manufactured from micrograin solid carbide, this end mill delivers consistent edge integrity at elevated cutting speeds. It is centercutting capable, allowing plunge entry into the workpiece without a pre-drilled pilot hole.
The 402-4844 is suited for milling slots, pockets, profiles, and contours in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Its uncoated micrograin carbide construction makes it a practical choice for general-purpose machining in job shop and production environments. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration is standard for conventional CNC milling setups. The regular-length body keeps the tool rigid and minimizes deflection during side milling and slotting passes.
Designed for use in standard 1/2 inch collets, end mill holders, or shrink-fit tooling on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. Part of the OSG Series 402 regular-length square end mill family.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before tool changes. Seat the 1/2 inch shank fully into the holder and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator after installation before beginning the cutting cycle.
