The OSG 402-4531 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision material removal in milling operations. Built from micrograin carbide, it delivers consistent edge integrity and wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials. The tool features a 29/64 inch (0.4531 inch) cutting diameter, a 1 inch length of cut, and a 3 inch overall length with a 1/2 inch shank. A 30-degree spiral helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. This is a right-hand cut, right-hand flute configuration with centercutting capability, making it suitable for plunge entry as well as peripheral and slot milling. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals install this tool in standard milling chucks or collet holders on CNC and manual milling machines.
The OSG 402-4531 is suited for general-purpose milling applications in job shops, production environments, and maintenance machining. Its regular length profile and 2-flute geometry make it a practical choice for slotting, profiling, and pocket milling where chip clearance is a priority. The uncoated micrograin carbide construction performs well in non-ferrous metals, plastics, and some ferrous materials where coating is not required. This tool fits applications requiring a compact, rigid end mill with a 1/2 inch shank for compatibility with standard toolholding systems.
Designed as a standard 1/2 inch shank square end mill compatible with collet chucks, end mill holders, and shrink-fit toolholders that accept 1/2 inch shank tooling on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following machine tool manufacturer guidelines. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Seat the shank to the recommended minimum engagement depth in the toolholder and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or damage before each use.
