The OSG 402-100008 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from micrograin carbide and coated with TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride), it delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of cutting conditions. The 2-flute configuration paired with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. At 1 inch in diameter with a 1-1/2 inch length of cut and a 4 inch overall length, this tool fits standard 1 inch collet and tool holder setups. It is a centercutting design, allowing direct plunge entry into workpieces. Installed by machinists and CNC operators in job shop and production environments.
The OSG 402-100008 is suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations. The single-end, right-hand cut and right-hand flute geometry make it compatible with conventional CNC machining centers and manual knee mills running standard right-hand spindle rotation. The regular-length classification and straight 1 inch shank make it a practical choice for general-purpose work where extended reach is not required. Typical applications include roughing and finishing passes in steel, stainless, cast iron, and similar materials where TiCN coating provides an advantage over uncoated tooling.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard tooling option for CNC machining centers and manual mills accepting a 1 inch straight shank end mill in an ER, Weldon, or similar 1 inch tool holder.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the tool holder to the recommended minimum engagement depth before torquing the retention mechanism. Verify runout with a dial indicator after installation and before initiating a cut, as excessive runout accelerates wear on carbide tooling.
