The OSG 3182040 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It features a 0.1575-inch (4 mm) cutting diameter with a 0.315-inch (8 mm) length of cut and a 0.2362-inch (6 mm) shank diameter. The two-flute geometry with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action in tight-tolerance applications. A WXL coating enhances surface hardness and heat resistance, extending tool life in demanding machining environments. This end mill is centercutting, allowing plunge entry directly into the workpiece. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals will find it well-suited for slotting, profiling, and contouring operations requiring a small-diameter tool.
This end mill is intended for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills where small-diameter, high-precision cutting is required. The 30-degree right-hand helix and right-hand cut configuration make it appropriate for conventional and climb milling in materials where micrograin carbide and WXL coating provide a meaningful advantage, including hardened steels, stainless, and aluminum alloys. The 45 mm overall length keeps deflection low while still providing adequate reach for most shallow-pocket and profile applications. It belongs to OSG Series 3721.
Designed as a standard straight-shank solid carbide square end mill compatible with any ER collet system, shrink-fit holder, or precision end mill holder accepting a 0.2362-inch (6 mm) shank diameter.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and machine in an e-stop or lockout condition. Verify collet or tool holder runout before operation, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on small-diameter carbide tools. Use appropriate cutting fluid or air blast as required by the workpiece material. Refer to OSG Series 3721 speeds-and-feeds data for recommended spindle speed and feed rate before initial use.
