The OSG 3173516 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in metalworking and machining applications. It features a 0.0984-inch (2.5 mm) cutting diameter, a 0.1457-inch length of cut, and a 0.1575-inch (4.00 mm) shank diameter. The four-flute, right-hand cut geometry with a 35-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes at small diameters. The WXL coating improves wear resistance and tool life in demanding cutting conditions. This end mill is single-end, center-cutting, and manufactured from micrograin solid carbide for rigidity and edge retention. It is suited for CNC machining centers and manual mills operated by machinists and tool-and-die professionals.
This end mill is intended for small-diameter milling operations including slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The extended-reach design and 16 mm reach length make it effective in applications where tool clearance from a workpiece shoulder or fixture is required. The 35-degree helix and right-hand flute direction suit general-purpose finish milling at tight tolerances. It is packaged individually and sold in single-unit quantities, making it appropriate for job-shop and maintenance environments where specific diameter replacements are needed without bulk ordering.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard-stocking solid carbide square end mill for CNC machining centers and manual mills accepting a 0.1575-inch (4.00 mm) round shank.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet or tool holder and torque the retention mechanism to the machine manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a production cut to protect the small-diameter cutting edge from premature breakage.
