The OSG 3123116 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for high-performance milling of hardened and pre-hardened steels, stainless steel, cast iron, and other hard materials. Built on the OSG Series 3790 Exocarb WXL platform, it carries a PVD-applied WXL coating that extends tool life in demanding cutting conditions. The mill measures 3.00 mm (0.1181 inches) in diameter with a 2-flute, right-hand helical geometry at a 30-degree helix angle. Extended reach geometry and a reduced neck diameter of 2.85 mm allow access to deeper features without sacrificing rigidity. It is intended for roughing and finishing operations and is installed by machinists and toolroom professionals in CNC milling applications.
This end mill is suited for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, hard materials, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. The extended-reach configuration with a 16.00 mm reach length and 13.60 mm neck length makes it appropriate for pocketing, profiling, and contouring operations where standard-length tools cannot reach. The 6.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance fits standard collet chucks and shrink-fit holders commonly used in precision CNC machining centers.
The OSG 3123116 is rated for primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hard materials (ISO material codes P, M, K, H), with secondary compatibility for non-ferrous metals and superalloys including titanium (ISO codes N, S). It is part of the OSG Series 3790 Exocarb WXL line.
Install in a clean, properly sized collet chuck or shrink-fit holder sized for a 6.00 mm shank; verify runout before cutting to preserve edge life on this small-diameter tool. Confirm spindle and axis locks are released and the machine is at full stop before any tool change. Follow the machine tool builder and OSG Series 3790 recommended cutting parameters for speed and feed based on workpiece hardness. Do not use in coolant-through mode, as this tool does not support internal coolant delivery.
