The OSG 3112116 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding ferrous and hard material applications. Part of the OSG Series 3790 Exocarb WXL line, this single-end mill features a 0.0787-inch (2.00 mm) cutting diameter with a 1.60 mm length of cut and a 1.00 mm nose radius. The WXL PVD coating provides enhanced hardness and heat resistance, making this tool well suited for roughing and finishing operations in pre-hardened and hardened steels. The ultra-fine micrograin carbide substrate delivers rigidity and edge retention in difficult cutting conditions. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in tool and die, aerospace, and precision machining shops are the primary users of this end mill.
This end mill is designed for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hard materials as primary workpiece materials. Secondary workpiece materials include non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. The extended-reach geometry, with a 16.00 mm reach length and a 14.40 mm neck length at a reduced 1.95 mm neck diameter, allows access in deep pockets and tight contours where standard-length tools cannot reach. The 4.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance fits standard collet and end mill holders commonly used in CNC machining centers.
Rated for primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hard materials (ISO material codes P, M, K, H); compatible with secondary workpiece materials including non-ferrous metals and superalloys and titanium (ISO codes N, S). Fits standard 4.00 mm collet or end mill holders with h6 shank tolerance.
Installation and operation of this end mill should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with CNC milling equipment and cutting tool safety. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out before mounting or removing the tool from the holder. Use a properly sized collet or end mill holder matched to the 4.00 mm shank diameter to maintain runout accuracy and prevent tool pullout. Follow machine manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety standards for speeds, feeds, and depth of cut when programming tool paths in hardened or hard material applications.
