The OSG 3110408 is a straight flute machine tap designed for cutting 10-24 UNC internal threads in hardened steel. It features a modified bottoming chamfer, allowing threads to be cut close to the bottom of blind holes where a standard taper or plug tap cannot reach. Constructed from solid carbide and finished with a TiCN coating, this tap delivers the hardness and heat resistance needed for demanding threading operations. With 4 flutes and a right-hand thread direction, it is suited for CNC machining centers and rigid tapping setups where chip control and precision fit are critical. The 2B class of fit meets standard tolerance requirements for general mechanical assemblies.
This tap is intended for machine tapping applications in hardened steel workpieces, a material condition that typically demands carbide tooling over high-speed steel. It is used in production and job-shop environments where consistent thread quality in tough materials is required. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it a practical choice for blind-hole applications in aerospace, tooling, mold, and die components where thread depth is constrained. Machinists and CNC operators in metalworking shops are the primary installers of this tooling.
Designed for machine tapping of 10-24 UNC right-hand threads in hardened steel; compatible with CNC machining centers and rigid tapping setups accepting a 0.194-inch shank diameter.
This tap is intended for use by machinists and CNC operators in machine tapping applications only — it is not designed for hand tapping. Ensure the spindle is set to the correct feed rate and RPM for the workpiece material before engaging the tap. Secure the tap in a suitable rigid tap holder to prevent runout and thread quality issues. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use, as carbide tooling can fracture if subjected to side loading or improper alignment.
