The OSG 3056216 is a 2-flute solid carbide ball end mill engineered for high-precision finishing operations on hard materials and high-hardness steels. It carries a 1.00 mm (0.0394 inches) mill diameter with a 0.50 mm nose radius and a DUROREY PVD coating applied to extend tool life under demanding cutting conditions. The extended-reach long-neck design, with a 13.70 mm reach length and a reduced 0.95 mm neck diameter, allows access to deep cavities and tight-clearance features without interference. This tool belongs to OSG Series 8590 and is intended for use by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working in hard-material milling applications.
This end mill is suited for finishing and roughing passes on hard steels and similar hard workpiece materials in die and mold machining, medical component production, and precision part manufacturing. The extended neck geometry makes it particularly effective in deep-pocket and multi-axis CNC milling scenarios where standard-length tools cannot reach. The 30-degree medium helix angle supports chip evacuation while maintaining rigidity in the cut. The 4.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank provides secure clamping in standard collet or hydraulic toolholders.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers with toolholders accepting a 4.00 mm straight shank. Primary workpiece material designation is Hard Material (H code); secondary designation is Steel (P code), per OSG Series 8590 classification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer guidelines for collet or hydraulic chuck torque and runout verification. Confirm shank seating depth meets the toolholder minimum grip length before operation. Power down and lock out the spindle before any tool change. Do not exceed the tool manufacturer recommended depth-of-cut or feed-rate parameters for the workpiece hardness being machined.
