The OSG 3056194 is a 2-flute solid carbide ball end mill engineered for high-precision finishing operations in hard and difficult-to-machine materials. It features an 0.0315 inch (0.80 mm) cutting diameter with a 0.40 mm nose radius and a 30-degree medium helix angle optimized for stable chip evacuation in hardened steels. The extended-reach long neck design provides clearance in deep-cavity and fine-detail milling applications where standard-length tools cannot reach. DUROREY PVD coating reduces tool wear and maintains edge integrity at elevated cutting temperatures. This tool is suited for CNC machining centers operated by skilled machinists and toolroom professionals working in precision die, mold, and component manufacturing.
The OSG 3056194 is designed for milling hard materials and steels, making it a practical choice for die and mold work, micro-cavity finishing, and fine-feature machining on hardened workpieces. The straight-cylindrical 4.00 mm shank fits standard collet systems, and the 45.00 mm overall length with a 9.50 mm neck length gives reach into recessed features. The helical flute geometry supports both roughing and finishing passes in a single tool, reducing changeover time during multi-step operations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard production tool in OSG Series 8590. Primary workpiece material is hard material (H code); secondary workpiece material is steel (P code). Fits any CNC milling spindle accepting a 4.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank via standard collet or tool holder.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician familiar with micro-diameter end mill handling. Ensure the machine spindle and collet are clean and within tolerance before seating the shank, as runout at this diameter will significantly affect tool life and surface finish. Secure the tool to the manufacturer-recommended gage length to maximize rigidity and minimize deflection during cutting. Follow your machine tool builder guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when setting speeds, feeds, and depth of cut for hardened workpiece materials.
