The OSG 2992101 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting M12x1.25 metric fine internal threads in a wide range of ferrous materials. Built from vanadium high-speed steel with a steam oxide coating, this tap delivers improved lubricity and corrosion resistance during threading operations. The 3-flute spiral design at a 45-degree helix angle pulls chips up and out of the hole, making it well suited for blind-hole applications. A modified bottoming chamfer allows threading closer to the bottom of a blind hole than a standard plug tap. Overall length is 3.375 inches, and thread direction is right hand. The D5 thread limit designation indicates ground tolerances appropriate for standard tolerance-class threaded holes. Licensed machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance technicians are the primary users of this tool.
The OSG 2992101 is applied in precision tapping of blind holes across alloy steel, carbon steel, cast iron, stainless steel, die steel, and hardened steel workpieces. The spiral flute geometry is particularly effective in CNC machining centers and manual drill presses where chip evacuation from enclosed cavities is critical. The modified bottoming chamfer suits situations where thread engagement must extend near the base of a blind bore. With a shank diameter of 0.367 inches and a thread length of 13.99 millimeters, this tap fits standard tap holders and machine collets sized for M12 tooling.
Designed for threading M12x1.25 metric fine blind holes in alloy steel, carbon steel, cast iron, stainless steel, die steel, and hardened steel. Part of the OSG Series 299 spiral flute tap line.
This tap is installed and operated by machinists or maintenance technicians using a standard tap holder, machine spindle, or tapping head rated for M12 tooling. Before tapping, ensure the drilled hole is the correct minor diameter for M12x1.25 threads per applicable standards. Power down the machine and secure the workpiece before mounting or removing the tap. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain thread quality.
