The OSG 2954600 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 10-32 UNF internal threads in blind and shallow through-hole applications. Built from vanadium high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers reliable edge retention across a range of threading operations. The 2-flute, right-hand spiral design evacuates chips upward, reducing the risk of chip packing in blind holes. A 50-degree helix angle provides aggressive chip lift, particularly effective in softer materials. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. Overall length is 2.375 inches. This tap is sized to an H5 thread limit, indicating a slightly oversize cut suitable for achieving standard fit tolerances in common materials.
This tap is rated for use in aluminum and comparable non-ferrous materials. It is well suited for production and maintenance environments where 10-32 UNF threads are required in blind-hole configurations. Typical applications include light machine assembly, instrument panels, and precision sheet metal work where bottom-of-hole thread engagement is critical. The compact 0.194-inch shank diameter fits standard tap holders and collet chucks used in manual tapping arms, drill presses, and CNC machining centers.
Designed for use in standard tap holders, collet chucks, and tapping arms accepting a 0.194-inch shank diameter. Rated for aluminum and comparable non-ferrous materials as noted in OSG Series 295 specifications.
Always secure the workpiece firmly and use a properly sized tap holder to prevent tap breakage during threading. Apply a compatible cutting fluid or tapping oil appropriate for the workpiece material before and during the tapping operation. Ensure the spindle or tapping arm is properly aligned with the pilot hole to avoid tap deflection or thread damage. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use, as a damaged tap can compromise thread quality and lead to tap breakage in blind holes.
