The OSG 2892308 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting internal M12x1.75 metric coarse threads in through-hole applications. It features a plug chamfer for general-purpose tapping and is manufactured from Vanadium High Speed Steel (HSS-E) for increased toughness and wear resistance compared to standard HSS. The TiCN coating reduces friction and extends tool life across a wide range of workpiece materials. With 3 flutes and a right-hand thread direction, this tap pushes chips ahead of the cutting edge, making it well suited to production tapping in through holes. The 6H class of fit delivers a standard tolerance thread appropriate for most metric fastener applications.
This tap is intended for use in machine tapping operations on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines. It performs across a broad range of materials including aluminum, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. The spiral point design makes it most effective in through-hole applications where chips can exit from the front of the hole. It is used by machinists, tool and die makers, and precision fabrication shops working to metric thread standards.
Designed for machine tapping of M12x1.75 metric coarse through holes in aluminum, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, and cast iron workpieces.
This tap is intended for use by trained machinists in machine tapping applications. Secure the tap in a suitable tap holder or rigid tapping chuck rated for the spindle and torque requirements of the machine. Ensure the workpiece is properly fixtured and the pilot hole is drilled to the correct tap drill diameter for M12x1.75 before beginning the tapping operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to maximize tool life and thread quality.
