The OSG 2813401 is a spiral point plug tap designed for cutting 10-24 UNC threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from vanadium high speed steel with a steam oxide coating, this tap delivers improved lubricity and corrosion resistance during the tapping operation. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting teeth, making it well suited for through-hole applications where chip evacuation is a priority. With an H3 thread limit and a 2B/3B class of fit, it produces threads that meet standard fastener assembly tolerances. The overall length is 2.374 inches, with a thread length of 0.492 inches and a shank diameter of 0.194 inches.
This tap is intended for production and maintenance tapping in metals including low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and aluminum. It is a right-hand tap and does not feature coolant-through capability. Typical applications include machine shops, maintenance and repair operations, and fabrication environments where 10-24 UNC threaded holes are required in through-hole configurations. It is sold individually and is part of OSG Series 280.
Designed for through-hole tapping of 10-24 UNC threads in aluminum, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, and cast iron. Not intended for blind-hole applications where chip packing is a concern.
Spiral point taps should be installed in a rigid tapping setup or a tapping head with appropriate torque limiting to prevent breakage. Always apply cutting fluid or tapping compound appropriate for the workpiece material before starting. Ensure the tap is aligned perpendicular to the workpiece surface before engagement. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and secure the workpiece firmly before operation.
