The OSG 2592501 is a spiral point plug tap designed for threading M14x1.50 metric fine holes in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from vanadium high-speed steel (HSS-E) with a steam oxide coating, it delivers improved chip ejection and heat resistance compared to standard HSS taps. The plug chamfer design — typically 3 to 5 leading threads — allows it to start cleanly in through-hole applications. Three flutes provide adequate chip clearance while maintaining tool rigidity at this diameter. Overall length is 3.937 inches, with a thread length of 1.417 inches. This tap is suited for hand tapping, CNC tapping, and drill press operations where through-hole metric fine threads are required.
The 2592501 is intended for through-hole threading in materials including aluminum, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, cast iron, and stainless steel. The 6H class of fit produces a standard tolerance thread suitable for general-purpose metric fastener assemblies. Right-hand thread direction is standard for conventional tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC spindle use. The steam oxide surface finish reduces galling and improves lubricant retention during the tapping operation.
Designed for through-hole M14x1.50 metric fine tapping in aluminum, cast iron, low-, medium-, and high-carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, and stainless steel. Compatible with standard tap wrenches, tapping heads, and CNC tapping spindles accepting a 0.429 inch round shank with 12.7 mm square drive.
This tap should be installed and operated by a machinist or tooling professional familiar with metric tapping procedures and cutting fluid selection. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and that the correct tap drill size for M14x1.50 is used prior to tapping. Always apply a suitable cutting fluid for the workpiece material — sulfurized oil for steels, water-soluble coolant for aluminum. Back off the tap periodically to break and clear chips, and never force a tap against resistance to avoid breakage.
